Hey everyone I have an '85 ford ranger with a lima 2.0 and my distributor has taken a crap on me. I am looking around and have not been able to find one that looks the same. I see some with electric advances but mine is a vacuum advance. I am wondering what 4 cylinder distributors are compatible with this engine with a vacuum advance. Also I have found one that looks pretty similar but the reluctor wheel is for a 6 cylinder. Could I change out this reluctor wheel to fit mine, or could someone point me in the direction of fixing my issue

I would be interested in buying yours once you find a replacement. Seriously. Let me know. I’ll do some searching for a replacement as well for you.

Are you fuel injected or carbureted?
Manual or automatic transmission?

I am carburetor amd manual transmission. And I found out something about an edis or and hei distributor. Would something like this work? And what is the difference?

EDIS is a fully electronic ignition system that uses a crankshaft mounted wheel to trigger a module called EDIS-4, which then sends signals to a 4 tower Motorcraft wastes spark coil. It sets the base timing to 10 degrees IIRC, uses no distributor. Needs a computer to send advance signals like a MegaJolt or a MicroSquirt or a mega squirt. That is programmed by you. Wheel needs to be critically installed on crank and a hall or mag pickup must be retrofitted.

It is an easy $500 and likely a bit more to install any of the mentioned systems not including you labor. But it’s common practice these days as it offers a cure for anything that ails an ignition system.
