Distributor ´89 2.9l

where is the distributor fixed? i can move it easily by hand, ignition timing changes dramatically during driving. i can´t see or feel a single bolt that could fix the distributor in it´s proper position

is the clamp bolt accessable from the pessenger side or the drivers side?

p.s.: i can´t remove the upper intake manifold, because i don't have a spare gasket

When I put my distributor back in on mine, I could reach the hold down from the driver side.

You should be able to reach the clamp from either side, but it is set more towards the passenger side. If you feel around the base of the stem you might be able to find the hole where the bolt fell out.

I have the se year it's off set lower than the base of the distributer more towards the drivers side. It's a bit£h to get too and I had to use a socket with a stupid long extension. Good luck . If I remember correctly it was a flexible extension.

thank you guys, never seen a vertically clamped distributor before.

I think it is best acessable from the drivers side with a long extension and an universal joint ( don´t no if thats the correct term, got it from some random online dictionary)

whatever...ranger runs better, but desperately needs new cap and wires and stuff, but i will move my further questions to the other forums

Best way to tighten up, short socket, universal, long extension. Just feel down the distributor and you find it.
