Yeah, me again....so, i accidently rotated the crankshaft when re-installing the crank pully. Removed the distributer, then noticed the engine had been moved from tdc...opps! After getting it back to tdc, i tried to reinstall the distributer and it wont go in. Im guessin it has to do with the oil pump rod thingy? So, my main questian is how to get the distributer in, can i just turn the engine several times and try to install the distributer untill it fits? Also, after doing that, when the distributer is in and i re-set the tdc, should the rotor be at the #1 cylinder, or would i have to rotate the engine untill the rotor is where it needs to be, remove the distributer, reset tdc, and reinstall the distributer? I know it sounds confusing, thats why im confused...any input? The engine is the 2.9 in my 88 bronco II, and it is assembled except for this....

Find TDC on the #1 cyl insert the dizzy to where it will be where you want it when she drops all the way down and fast click the starter until it drops with light pressure then Find tdc again and see if the rotor is pointing at the #1 post in the cap around 11 oclock. Just make sure it is on the compression stroke on the #1 cly pull the plug and stick your finger in the plug hole and feel for compression as you rotate the engine you can use the starter or a socket just dont rotate the engine backwards you can possibly skip a gear on the timing chain all ways turn it the same as if it is running.

This is kind of a slow and careful process make sure you are at no.1 on the compression stroke.Line up the rotor under where no.1 wire goes into the cap.In order to hit this right you have to account for the slant of the drive gear. The dist. never slides into the motor so you can see whats going on because of the slant of the drive gear and oil shaft. So you have to find TDC again make sure the rotor is under the no. 1 plug.

Thats why you can electrically adjust via rotating the distributor.
You don't have to be dead nuts on mechanically upon insertion. Just with in at least half the distance you have to rotate the distributor in either direction.

one thing i learned when doing this is watch out for the rotor when u tap the key!!!!! It bites n plays for keeps!!!!!

You have to wiggle the whole thing back and forth a bit and get a bit forceful with it to make it go in completely. That's just how they are.
