Good evening, everyone! has anyone had to replace there extended \ regular cab headliner? FYI-You can find a complete, brand-new headliner all day long for our earlier Rangers up to 1997, and after that there extinct with exception of a bone yard and good luck with that! A pleasure being here! Any advice? (a little too noisy in my old 2000 Ford 4dr 4x4. Thanks

Is the backing destroyed? Or does it just need new covering? Most auto upholstery shops will recover it for you. And many people do it themselves. Good 3M spray adhesive, material from a fabric shop and some patience and attention to detail. I lack the patience. So I paid to have mine done.

I took my backing peice & sprayed it with grey flex seal after peeling off the rest of the fabric. I had the headliner completely out of the truck for over a year but it does help for sound & temperature insulation. Luckily I hadn’t thrown it away.

I got mine done at a local upholstery shop. Same day turnaround and cost about a hundred bucks.

You wanna talk discontinued, find me a cam synchronizer for a '93 4.0 (not a Dorman)

Yeah, the backing can't be used. The truck is a one owner and it had a aftermarket sunroof installed in it that apparently had been broken. The owners son had glued a piece of metal over the opening and caulked it to keep water from coming in.
I had to buy a new sunroof glass. Clean the perimeter, installed the glass, sealed the perimeter with a urethane glazing caulk.
My plan is to find a solid headliner cover and completely cover the sunroof. I actually found a 99 four-door ranger at Pull-A-Part and pull the headliner from it and of course it had minimal issues. I bought two yards of headliner material from a fabric shop here in the Memphis area and was preparing to install the fabric. Googled an install video on YouTube that told me to scrape the phone from the surface. Should have left well enough alone. Once you scrape that insulation off of the liner all you have is a paper thin sheet of fiberglass that isn't strong enough to support pressing a new liner on it. Needless to say, I'm back at square one. I have found headliners for a buck 35 in at a salvage yard on the other side of the state. Guessing this will be my next option. Appreciate any thoughts.

Trying to cover up an aftermarket sunroof.
Just found a total truck on the other side of the state that might have what I need. Checking for your synchronizer. I'll holler back later. Thanks

Good idea! I'll have to keep that in mind when I find one to reinstall. Thanks

The hardest part when I did mine was trying to get the backing board out of the cab. The fabric w/foam on the back side was available at the local fabric store and as stated above, some 3M spray adhesive and just press it on.

3M makes a spray adhesive specifically for headliners

A good auto upholstery shop can do you a headliner replacement. I had my extended cab 2002 Ranger headliner replaced in 2015 while having the seats rebuilt and recovered.

my sons and i have always pulled that stuff and redone it ourselves. not hard, just time consuming but we never scraped the foam off or anything that made the back to thin to support itself.

that would be a bummer. follow the online instructions and it screws you. especially on a hard to find part

I helped a guy out with his. Very easy to do. Not sure how well it's held up because I haven't heard from @Guanfy in a while. He's probably busy swapping the v8 into his rig.

3M Super 77! exactly what I used on the fiberglass sheet of paper after I scraped the foam off. Amazing how rigid that small layer of foam makes the liner! 3M- great products
