Hey all,

im just curious as to your ideas. I drove this truck two years ago and just recently started driving it again. Way back then, just like now, it burns through a quart of oil in a about a week. Any ideas as to why? I wasnt sure if there were any common problems that i should be aware of with the 3.0L.

Also as far as i know, there has not been any major work done on the truck ever. 262,000 miles...

on a side note, i think i can go longer between oil changes since im adding two quarts every two weeks.:annoyed:

That generally signifies weak rings or valve guides. Do you get any 'oil smoke' from the exhaust.

with 226.000 miles i would expect that from a motor nothing really unusual, just a sign the motor was ACTUALLY driven. i had a 2000 3.0 with 185xxx and i would lose that much in about 2 - 3 weeks. also depends on how YOUR driving it

also depends on how YOUR driving it

hahaha. Im using it to deliver pizza. Its not a pretty sight.

as far as smoke, haven't seen any at all. the engine is a tank, but i could see it being the rings anyways.

I forgot to mention that after driving i can hear a dripping somewhere in the passenger side of the engine. Somewhere near the block, but i hvent been able to figure it out yet. It doesnt drip on the ground but i hear it. It sounds really hollow...

This is more like a bandaid than anything, but try putting some lucas stop leak in there on your next oil change. It might do away with the problem completely or at least slow it down. It is worth a shot. My old Dodge used to go through a quart of oil till I switched over to synthetic, but I just got lucky on that.

Yeah i would put a small amount of lucas stop leak about a quater of an bottle because this stuff is really good and it is made to swell old seals. But it stoped oil consuption in my 93 4.0 with a ton of mods still leaks a little of the rear main but nothing like it use to and I only used a quater of an bottle when the truck got low on oil hey it worth a shot.
