I found out why my auto stop/start quit working. It was the tailgate light bar plugged into the 4-pin trailer plug. Follow me for more budget mods.

Did you find that in the owners manual?
Hooking up a trailer disables auto stop/start. As does turning the HVAC blower on high.

I kinda knew that but I didn’t really make the connection. Other folks have said that it turns on tow mode but mine doesn’t. Maybe because I have a lowly STX without the extra electronic gizmos. If I hit the console switch it will say A.S.S. is on or off and it’s not in tow mode.

BEST ACRONYM EVER

How about your blinkers? Whenever I have anything plugged into the trailer plug, my blinkers flash 5 times instead of 3 times (when I just quick tap the switch.)

Plugging in doesn't turn tow mode on for me, and I'm relatively sure I only get 3 flashes with a bump of the signal stalk.

Idk. Pawg is a pretty decent one. Although... mabey I'm just really into what the acronym references 🤷‍♀️

Unchanged.

Same.

My 2019 will recognize the trailer is attached but it doesn't automatically turn on tow/haul mode. The only thing I I noticed was that crass cross-traffic was disabled. I don't remember auto start/stop being disengaged.

Crass traffic?

Like that?

Now you do not have to worry about replacing your starter prematurely. :woot:
I have to manually turn that annoying feature off via the button below the HVAC bezel. It's a ridiculous add-on.

I makes sense to the tree huggers from an environmental stand point. Of course, they ignore the additional environmental impact that replacing the starter more often creates.

One thing I’ve found that keeps the Start/Stop from engaging is that of you slightly raise your foot off the brake just when you come to a full stop, it eliminates not only most of the “jolt” from the stop (something I learned from driving bus) it stops the engine from shutting off.

i read that forscan deal lets you turn off that auto start junk. i hated it on our escapes and would immediately hit the button to turn it off as soon as i started the car

Personally, I think the wear-on-starter issue is a bit overblown.

A.S.S starters are engineered to deal with their workload just as well as a traditional starter in a vehicle that doesn't have the feature.

They're higher torque, slower spinning, most of them are built with needle bearings rather than bushings, and due to the complexity of the rest of the electrical systems on today's vehicles they don't need to spin as long as their traditional counterparts to start the vehicle they're in.

Most of our cars in the fleet have A/S/S (about 400+). We haven’t noticed any real issues with premature starter failure.
