digital speedo

I have a 96 3.0 ranger. The speedo works but not the odometer. I've heard about the gear replacement and I think I'll pass on that. Now I've come across digital speedos that include both odometer and trip odometer. Has anyone used these and is installation a PITA. Thanks for any input.
