Hi-Just bought one of these as I thought it may come in handy. From the directions, and what I can find on the web I'm only told to place the reflective tape on "rotating shafts" to be measured. What are they talking about? I have no idea where to place the tape-tried the coil and distributor body and for some unknown got one reading and nothing else after a dozen tries. Where do I place the damn tape? Thanks

We use them at work all the time. The rotating shaft you want to measure is the crankshaft. Thats where you will get a RPM reading. Try the front of the crank (the balancer, pulley, etc).

Point it at a florescent light, you will get a reading from it. Thats usually how they are calibrated.

Perfect! That makes absolute sense. Really appreciate your help and so quickly!!
