Different 4.0 litres?

Is this correct...are there really two different 4.0 liters in the ranger. I mean they are the same as far as the engine just different guts? I heard this from some of my friends...if this is true what exactly is the difference, how do I tell, and which is better?

theres an overhead valve motor and a overhead cam motor.
