difference in car- truck 5.0's

I have installed a car 5.0 into my Jeep. Everyone tells me I wanted a truck motor. What are the differences other than the taller intake? (to provide more torque I assume)

You have to provide more info. If we are talking about a FI engine, then the obvious difference is the intake. The truck engine was tuned for lower RPMs. Was your car engine an HO or standard?

A standard roller is no slouch for bottom end either, mine has been carburated though. Late 80's and early 90's trucks used the same cam.

The motor is a 89 grand marquee. It is still speed density. The main question is the block and lower end. I can always change out the intakes to a truck one if there is a need. I really just want to know if the benefit will be worth changing out the upper plenum to a truck one.

Thanks for the help

There is no difference to any of the 5.0 lower ends, truck or car, standard or HO.

Aside from the pistons having no valve reliefs in the standards and some HO's having forged pistons.

True about the pistons and of course they are part of the reciprocating assembly, but I was only thinking rods and crank for the poster.

He is worried about blocks and lower ends, they are kind of in the middle. :dntknw:

Well since engines are divided into two categories, upper and lower, pistons would be the lower.

If you're going to change out the intake, use the Explorer manifold. It's worlds better than the truck or car intake. Out of curiosity, what motor did you take out of the Jeep, a 4.0?

actually it was a 289. I did the first swap swap about 15 years ago. I really love that motor and especially the way it sounds. (wife says if 5.0 does not sound like it, It has to go !!). My only reason for the swap is the fuel injection. The carb. just does not like being stood on end or bouncing (go figure).
Thanks to everyone for the help. :icon_thumby:

The timing chain cover, water pump and various brackets are different between the truck and car engines. I found this out when I put a '93 HO engine in my '88 F150.

They vary wildly, it seems they had a vendetta against anything cross matching between models let alone car vs truck.

Yeah, it sure surprised me. I grew up working on Fords in the late 70's- early 80's, when a 302 was a 302.
