Just out of curiosity, whats the difference between an 8.8 out of a explorer, compared to a mustang or f150? could you take the posi out of a mustang and stick it in the explorer? What about the other core guts in it?

The explorer has 31 spline shafts. Most mustangs all have 28 spline shafts like the rangers. I believe that the F-150's might have the 31 spline shafts but I'm not sure.

So long as it's an 8.8, and it has the same spline count on the shafts, then yes, you can take the carrier out from one vehicle and transfer it to another. However, by doing so you're going to need to setup the gears again. If you're going to keep the same gears, then you could probably get away with just setting backlash.
