Not sure where to put this question... so feel free to move it-

I was wondering if there is any difference between an 86/87 Ranger 4x4 frame and 89-92 Rnager 4x4 frame.

I am asking because i want to buy another ranger to use the frame for my v8 swap. Once i have the frame painted, and the v8 fitted then i want to swap my 92 ranger cab, bed, and front end suspension over to the new frame. Im looking at an 86 4x4 truck right now and just wondering if there will be any surprises if i try and bolt my 92 cab on the 86 frame. To my knowledge there is not difference.

the front frame horns are different, one uses bumper brackets one uses bolts directly to the frame, if someone has pics it would help with ym description

IIRC this is the only difference between the two...the later models have a 'crumple' zone accordian-like area where the front bumper mouints.

Putting an '89-92 body on an '86-88 frame works because you have extra material on the front of the frame that you can simply cut off.

There is a slight difference in the engine crossmember.
the brake line to the passenger side is routed differently
so the holes for the clips are in different places

The fuel tank crossmembers are different because the '89-92's used plastic fuel tanks with differnetly located vents, and wider straps (the keyhole slots for the outboard end of the straps is larger) and there is a crossmember directly over the rear axle on the later frame that is simply not there on the early frame.

Other than that....
