i have a 4wd 1987 ford ranger 2.9 with the a4ld transmission, the transmission went out and im here looking at a new 1 i found on craigslist but it is a 2wd transmission, will it work on my truck and allow me to still bolt the transfer case up for 4wd?

I don't believe so. I'm pretty sure the tail shafts are different.

I have a good one for sale if you're around PA.

unfortunately im all the way in washington state, although thank you for the offer and information, how much work would it be to change the tail end on the 2?

where in Washington are you? I have 2 complete 5-speed setups, and the junkyard down the road from me has a ton of RBV's

Whats that 60-70 miles isnt sedro woolley between arlingtom and bellingham due north of renton. It would be a nice road trip must be getting around the tulip fest take the little lady?

Coverting a 2wd to a 4x4 requires complete disassembly of the transmission because the output shafts are different lengths and the only way to remove the output shaft is through the front of the trans.
