diff between side exit & str8 back?

i got a catback exhaust setup for my 2000 2.5L. this is probably a stupid question, but i was wondering if there would be a difference between the side exit or going straight out the back. it came with side exit behind the rear tire and the tip welded to it. i wanted to cut the tip off and reweld it to be straight. strictly cosmetic. i know the pipes are bent for optimum flow, so i just wanted to know if this might have any effect on backpressure, etc. i'm thinking no, but i thought i'd ask anyway...thanks for any reply.

I think the side exit is primarily use on trucks to keep the exhaust from blowing to the rear when towing. Having the exhaust under the bumper also reduces ground clearance when off-road and could get smashed easier.

The exhause pipe is usually bent for the best pathway for clearance under the vehicle and they try to keep it as straight as possible to prevent flow restiction. You should not create any problems by going straight out the back.

i didn't think it would be an issue and since i never really tow anything, it should work out well. i guess it does make sense to have a side exit if you do a lot of towing though. thanks for the reply.
