diesel v. gasoline exhaust.

The old man's got a 2006 powerstroke... I gave him the nick-name "HotRod" cuz he thinks it accelerates hard.

But then he got out of his high chair (the F250) and into my cobra ranger. Obviously my ranger accelerated faster, but he complimented me on the suspension and the brakes the most.

Moral of the short story??? You are an idiot for driving an 8000 pound at 100+ miles an hour. Why? For the safety of you and everyone around you. The tires equipped on those trucks are not rated for speeds that fast. The suspension is designed for hauling/towing, not sudden maneuvers at high speeds.

I am not bashing the diesel engines, I'm disappointed with the drivers that operate them. Hauling a gooseneck trailer or a 26' camper at 70mph are the superduty's specialty. This is what my father (and other farmers in the area) use these superduty pick ups for. But when I go into town and some young redneck wannabe thinks its funny to blow smoke at me when I'm sitting at a stop light on my bike, kinda makes me wanna rip him out of the truck and hit him.

Sorry for ranting, some of the arguements on here remind me of "that guy" who tries to race people at every stop light with his diesel and blows smoke at others. Carry on...

so what does your "cobra ranger" run in the 1/8th or 1/4mi? and what does it weigh?

this is an honest question not some smart azz remark or reply. i legitimately would like to know.

A brakestand on wet pavement? That is sure impressive, so is all the black smoke. Wonder how long that thing would last pulling a real trailer? Puller queens usually just pull a sled a couple hundred feet... way different than the real world.

At least this has a logical purpose:

That truck is hooked to a trailer 75% of the time and hits sled pulls every weekend. Makes 525hp and 1100tq. Brakestand!?!? You mean power brake. In the diesel world thats called spooling the turbo

Lets see your truck do that daily and still get back home:thefinger:

Actually that is just an optical illusion with my Ranger parked in front of my Dad's F-350 back when it was feeling good.:D:icon_cheers: Darn old 29 year old, 300k 400 is getting kind of tired now... and it needs a clutch. You can see its rear tire behind mine. I even let down the air shocks to make it look like it was under a load...

This is all I pull with my F-150, a tad over 7k. If I pulled much more I would get a bigger truck, but it does what I need just fine.

In most other places of the world a brakestand or powerbrack (powerbrake??) or whatever else you want to call it is called cheating. You can make about anything (nose heavy, rear light trucks do it the best) smoke the tires doing that, especially on wet pavement. He must not pull on that setting either, or judging by the diesel smoke his trailer and backhoe would be black.

I actually pull most of my loads with it turned up all the way. The thing with a diesel is if you keep your foot out of it and let the turbo keep up you can keep it from dumping black smoke. Diesels also get better fuel mileage turned up. I actually picked up 2mpg with my bigger injectors and turbo set-up.

If I don't sit and spool the turbo and just take off. It takes till about mid way through 1st gear for the turbo to lite then it will smoke the tires through the rest of the gears.

I was just messing with you guys :icon_cheers: But some you have a lot to learn about diesels and diesel performance

Ok, school me because I don't buy this at all. so go ahead, take me to church son. You did not pick up 2mpg with bigger injectors and a turbo kit. the only way to pick that up is with software............ but then again your tuck would cry its dieing breath just looking at what I pull. get a tractor or go home.

The boost makes up for the more fuel being added giving a better burn, giving a clean burn. Also tuning injectors to the right PSI on inject phases, high pressure high compression diesel combustion= more mpg. Over 20% more fuel efficiency then a gasoline engine. Now on a gasoline its contrarry to a diesel, the more boost the more fuel since it needs a direct fuel and air mixture or it will run lean or heavy...Diesels have no such "proper" mixture.
Schooled enough?

so you own a modern light-duty diesel? no? then you dont know. larger injectors and turbo on a stock motor can pick up both power and MPG due to it running more effficiently. add to that a tune designed for those mods you will pick up even more power and MPG. i have towed up to 6000lbs with my "race tune" and the truck runs great. it doesnt like large hills much but i can control my EGTs with my right foot. with my tow tune i can hook to whatever i want and tow it ANYWHERE!

we dont tune our diesels with the right PSI. timing and pulse width is what makes up most of the fuel tuning.

Your improper knowledge of what your talking about is getting annoying. His truck would not "cry its dying breath" Its not the weight, its getting the weight stopped.

Please? Get a tractor or go home? Grace me with your knowledge about your tractor?
I get a kick out of the "tractor" though.

False...We're controlling PSI the injectors are running, or are you running a HEUI engine?

Or whats your definition of tuning? ha

Your just showing how little you know about a modern diesel.:icon_confused: Buddy I've pulled loaded tractor trailers out of my jobsites with my truck.

Not always. Depending on how deep your getting into the throttle, and dropping the clutch or not keeping the sweet spot when going up a hill and drowning it.

Yes thats true but that has to do with driver in put. If you dive it normal you will see the increase. You can make a stock truck get horrible mileage by beating on it.:icon_thumby:
