diesel v. gasoline exhaust.

about as stupid as a little truck that thinks it can actually do something? get out of the way next time my REAL truck is coming down the highway.

Hehe, yeah a 3/4 or 1 ton truck is a well noted speed machine. I will be clearing the road for sure in case you can't keep that hulk between the lines or don't happen to see my puny 5500lb chunk of iron skittering down the road (which you will more than feel btw)

My F-150 will shut off at 98 just like a stock diesel, a tuner will cure either for whatever it is worth. If I need to go that fast I will find something that is remotely made for it. Aside from a Lightning, SS or SRT-10, a fullsize truck plain and simple isn't.

Gotta love it when someone puts huge straightpipes, a chip, a turbo and whatever else they read about in a magazine on their lifted diesel pickup and think they have a sports car. A big tip(s) or a stack to me screams poser. I notice another popular trend with diesels is to have the exhaust stick way out past the fender (like almost a foot) so they don't get soot on their truck... nice.

Most guys that actually use them as trucks leave them fairly stock, you break less stuff.

i understand that. i dont like coming onto a site and causing problems but some of the people that have posted in this thread really DO NOT know what they are talking about. then they talk about it like they know what they are talking about and further spread the ignorance.

their thoughts of BP on a gas engine are totally correct, i give them that. but they cant apply that to a turbocharged diesel engine, they are two totally different animals.

Get you some Garrett :icon_cheers:

i highly doubt your ranger or your f-150 can keep up. and as for a 98mph governor, i dont have one of those either. i dont get my knowledge from reading magazines, they have nice pictures but often have way too much advertising than is good for the market. i have a really basic set up for my 6.0. SCT with custom tunes, 4" straight pipe, custom fuel system by me, plus a bunch of other little things. easy 420rwhp combo. its also been well into the triple digits in MPH, and not on a speedo, on GPS.

ill say it again, im not doubting your gasser knowledge. im merely saying that you DONT know about diesels.

I do know 03-04 6.0's LOVE to stretch the stock head studs and blow headgaskets when they run more boost than stock. My brother has made a lot of money putting headgaskets on them things, never one without a chip.

I never said big pipes didn't help diesels, I said big tips look stupid.

I also said I don't want to keep up, triple digits are for rare trucks and cars IMO. No interest at all do do it in a run of the mill truck, esp a 4x4. I have my F-150 to pull, not attempt to break the sound barrier. My Ranger can barely break the smell barrier, you have nothing to fear there.

A brakestand on wet pavement? That is sure impressive, so is all the black smoke. Wonder how long that thing would last pulling a real trailer? Puller queens usually just pull a sled a couple hundred feet... way different than the real world.

At least this has a logical purpose:

wait, you're calling a supercharged 1/2 ton a logical purpose? WAFJ! seriously now, that thing cant tow a trailer. ive seen way more sled pulling trucks pull trailers, haul hay, or work the farm way more than ive seen any 1/2 ton do. many of them run on the drag strip too.

but lets get back to the topic at hand. your lack of knowledge of the diesel engine.

ALL 6.0s love to blow HGs because of internationals poor choice of only using 10 bolts per head. also, 6.0s are hit and miss. some blow HGs stock, some can take nitrous and wont blow them. its a good motor, its just a poor original design.

It can actually handle, you know take a turn at a halfway respectable speed.

Most trucks that really do anything on a farm or commercially are stock or close to it.

Yeah but they were the worst at it. They improved the studs for the later ones, the earlier ones would pop with just a tuner. They were a decent engine that was rushed into production before their time to match up with the new Torqueshift and caught a lot of bad press because of it.

We really are not proving anything here.

it can handle? that is the logical thing about it? it's still useless as a truck. it cant pull or haul anything.

there are PLENTY of well built trucks that get used EVERYday.

and like i said, lets get back to the OP's post.

Yes, if I am going fast in something I want to be able to move a little if I need to with it flopping on its side. A fast truck that can't do that is worthless as a fast truck IMO.

A truck that can't move about a parking lot without rolling black smoke is begging for a DOT checkover if they are trying to pull a trailer. Nobody that hauls much goes around looking for one of those. A truck that can't pull a trailer without attracting a bunch of blue Crown Vics is pretty worthless as a tow rig.

Anyone that runs around looking for a fight on the internet needs to find a life. You personally attacked me just because I thought huge tips (which have NO effect on performance) look rediculous, how petty.

i didnt personally attack you.

lets try this one more time, get back to the OPs topic. this is in the exhaust section.

i like y0u:D

some real comedy in here you could not let go eh?:icon_rofl:

easy....you will go nuts if you look around too far:shok:

ya know, theres shit tons of 100-150 mph trucks running in insane off road races that also run on the pavement....many are even 4x4.

some are even 85 ranger 4x4,s

The old man's got a 2006 powerstroke... I gave him the nick-name "HotRod" cuz he thinks it accelerates hard.

But then he got out of his high chair (the F250) and into my cobra ranger. Obviously my ranger accelerated faster, but he complimented me on the suspension and the brakes the most.

Moral of the short story??? You are an idiot for driving an 8000 pound at 100+ miles an hour. Why? For the safety of you and everyone around you. The tires equipped on those trucks are not rated for speeds that fast. The suspension is designed for hauling/towing, not sudden maneuvers at high speeds.

I am not bashing the diesel engines, I'm disappointed with the drivers that operate them. Hauling a gooseneck trailer or a 26' camper at 70mph are the superduty's specialty. This is what my father (and other farmers in the area) use these superduty pick ups for. But when I go into town and some young redneck wannabe thinks its funny to blow smoke at me when I'm sitting at a stop light on my bike, kinda makes me wanna rip him out of the truck and hit him.

Sorry for ranting, some of the arguements on here remind me of "that guy" who tries to race people at every stop light with his diesel and blows smoke at others. Carry on...

i whole-heartedly agree with that. i am NOT that young punk that gets an exhaust, intake, and programmer and thinks his truck has 500hp and can "smoke" everyone in town. all my mods were well researched and have been for the better of my truck.

also, you cant refer to diesel owners as the same as that kid with his edge tuner and exhaust. just as i do not want to offend the ranger group on this site as most of you are smart with what you do and why you do it. no matter what the crowd there will always be the few "smart ones" that have 2x the HP of everyone else.

as for triple digit MPH numbers, you gotta think, some of us diesel guys that dont tow much run street tires such as the toyo proxes that have a high enough speed rating.

i do apologize for the bashing to the "real ranger guys", my comments were merely directed towards the "misinformed" that made their very educated posts.

the population of this site that knows engines, exhausts, and everything in between will know that half the original posts were not too smart.
