alright guys ive read nonstop about possibilities of a diesel swap into my 96 ranger and from what i have read the only thing that is feasable without hacking the absolute crap out of the fram is a chevy 6.5 turbo diesel and i was just curious as to what all diesel options are possible with the truck.... it is currently a 2.3 liter 5 speed 4x2 but it will become 4x4 when it comes time for the motor swap... im not some dumb kid trying to dream big and never do anything i just dont know anything about trucks let alone diesels (aside from there awsome torque and towing ability while still having exceptional fuel economy. any help here would be awsome so i can start to replan the buildup of my first truck

If you decide to run a 6.5 get one from 93 or older less problematic. Not near as many electrical problems.

Send a message to bobbywalter. He knows all about putting Detroits in Rangers.

I will definitely msg him but im trying to see if there are any other feasible options like i no a 6bt would require way to much firewall movement but what about a 7.3psd.... Not a big fan of 6.0psd but how difficult would it be to swap on of them in..... Just trying to figure out what all my possibilities r and what my best choice will b

There is always the 6bt's little brother... The 4bt.

I have read a little about the 4bt and its funny u say that because there isa 4bt on cl within 10 miles pf my house for 3500 but from what i have read factory settings make it at like 100 hp.... now im completely new to diesels so please bear with me guys. I no that it is extremely easy to "awaken" a motor like that.... Or so i have read that it is simple.... But i personally dont know how... Im more than willing to learn of someone is willing to teach tho.... And ive also watched a couple videos of ppl with 4bt swaps and they sound like a damn tractor and that would drive me nuts..... I no that the 6.5 doesnt sound the best for a diesel but it still sounds like a diesel truck..... So if thete is a way to create a totally different exhaust sound and up the power easily to atleast 160-175hp then i would concider it...... But info is desperitely needed on that particular setup to convince me to go that route

I love the "tractor" diesel sound.....I'd love to have a 4bt straight piped in my Mazda, but may never get around to doing it...

Pretty much any inline 6 cylinder diesel will sound like a tractor, thats where they where initially used. Put a big turbo on it to drown it out :icon_twisted:

If its around 100hp, im going to assume is either a 90 or a 105hp. Those are common ratings for them. That would mean its prob a VE pump. They are easy to turn up. You could easily get around 150hp 300ft-lbs out of that with a bigger turbo and some turning of the screws. $3500 is kinda high for a VE pump 4bt. The P-pump 4bta usually goes for around that, but they start at 120hp.

idk i just dont think i could get past the tractor sound i want somethin that is just gonna sound like a bad mofo if im gonna go through all this trouble lol anybody got any other input on what other kinds of diesels i can put into this thing..... i appreciate all ur guys input on this andim glad to know this forum is really good about discusssing the topics

like legoms said, put a big turbo on it and that will drown out the tractor sound.

you ever gone to a tractor pull and hear nothing but turbo whine and no motor? I think that is the equivalent to sounding awesome

errr.....ummm.
