I have a 98 ranger that has been running bad on and off, the only code I have is 0446 which is evap control vent circuit low, will this vent not working properly cause this? I removed the gas cap and it seemed to make it run right again, possible?,,,,thanks,,,Neil

I thought I found the problem when I found the PCV valve stuck open but it happened again today, it always happens right after climbing a long hill in 4th lugging the motor when I lift off the gas at the top it all of a sudden it surges it will run right for about 2 seconds then die for 2 seconds and repeat. It acts like vacuum loss but I put a vacuum gauge on it and it doesn't change when its surging. I am really stumped by this one. Fuel pressure is fine, I put new coil packs on it, new plugs, fuel filter, took the egr off and blocked it off, unhooked one by one all the vacuum hoses still nothing is showing up as the problem, Is there any way it could be the pcm? I have many tranny codes because I put a 5 speed behind the 5.0, I am going to get a 95 bronco 5.0 manual pcm and try that but it is really frustrating at this point because I can't find anything wrong...Neil
