So, I am in the process of moving to North Dallas, Texas from the New Orleans, LA area and on one my survey trips decided to drive. My wife and I had just bought the new 5.0 Mustang GT and I really did not want to drive the minivan all the way there. So, away we went in the pony car.

Would you believe 26 mpg on the freeway all the way there and 24.5 back? In the city the wife gets around 19 to 20. I get 14. :headbang::rockon:

Boy I love that car.

Nice man, I hope to see 1100 miles on a odometer on a car I own some day. Yea it's unbelieveable the mileage they get out of cars now a day. You got some pics of the whole car?

It all depends on how you drive them. 27.0 mpg is the best reading from my 2005 GTO. I usually get about the same 14-16 range you speak of:

The really impressive numbers are from the latest direct injection engines like the EcoBoost series. The 3.5 in the F150 generates 22mpg on the highway. My '92 F150 is barely rated for half that.

That kind of gas mileage is not new. I had a 1963 Mercury that averaged 27 mph on the interstate at 65 mph... Have another one I plan on putting a 302 and a 5 speed into next year, with a 3.00 rear gears. I really expect it to break 30mpg on the road. gearing the trans to the torque curve in the motor.

This is in a 400+hp car though...

My brother's '11 got about 25 mpg on I80 running 77mph coming back from South Dakota last year. FYI I80 has a very gradual decline going east. Going north on I29 it was right around 23-24 with varied terrian. I think he just said it rolled over to 2800 miles a couple weeks ago... so it is still nowhere close to broken in.

Probably would do better yet if the little bugger didn't order 3.73's...

The EPA rating on it is 17mpg city and 26mpg highway. Very impressive for a 412hp car. But as stated above, your right foot is the biggest difference on mpg.

keep your foot out of it, you might get the 19-20 to..lol

That isn't the easiest thing to do in the world though... :3gears:

Yup I believe it. Modern EFI V8s in a car will get pretty good mileage, my dad's old 93 5.0 HO automatic T-bird would do 26mpg freeway as well.

You know it. I never had anything quicker than a 93 Dodge p/u with a 318 in it. Not bad but not this either.

The first week I had it, I went to my wifes work for some reason and ended up taking some deposits to the bank for her. Getting on the freeway I decided to "see what it would do". I was on the ramp doing 50 or 55 and floored it.....120 in seconds.....without even hesitating. Its a good thing she drives it to work or I would get in so much trouble its not even funny.

You most likely got a pos 5.0 motor. It is not putting out the real hp number it should..........lol
One of my buddies has a new GT 'Stang and he is getting 28 mpg when he and his wife and kid took it out to Utah from Florida. He could not believe it!! He said....'Dang'!! 28 mpg out and back round trip!! Nice weather and the roads were great he said. Go figure...another buddy has a 2011 GT as well that only gets about 22 on his trips up to Georgia and back!!! 22 really sucks compared to yours and my other buddies' GT!!!!

Yeah, me too. :headbang:

Same here. I may have to give the GSXR I've been riding the last few days back to its owner just to stay out of trouble. Opened it up through all of second gear the other day and didn't find the power all that impressive until I cleared 50mph or so and caught the last 4-5K rpm. From 8k on it scoots along just fine. Looked down soon after I came into 3rd and was about to clear 100mph. Had to back off in a hurry!
