Did all 4L's have an EGR valve?

My 1994 4L is throwing a CEL for insufficient EGR flow, but I can't find a EGR valve anywhere in the engine bay... I only have had this truck for 2 months and dont know its history, maybe previous owner removed it...? Maybe it never had one? Anyone have any pics of where this thing SHOULD be in my engine bay? Or where on which exhaust manifold (L or R) the EGR tube normally connects? Sounds like an exhaust leak when I drive it too... have a hunch that maybe the EGR tube port on the exhaust is wide open... thoughts?

Drivers side manifold. It would be obvious if you had one, it sorta stands out.

Early 4.0s didn't have ERG systems.
90-93, and 94s with Federal emissions had no ERG
94s with California emissions had EGR systems
95+ it was standard

Kinda hard to see but,
On the far engine(94 Cali Emis, ERG) you will see a tube running from the bottom of the manifold running up towards the intake.
On the closer engine(93, non EGR) you won't see that there.

Thank you, that is VERy helpful. Looks like my truck doesnt have the EGR at all, the code the guy pulled from the shop must have been wrong so I'm going to have another shop pull the check engine light code again.....

It's just as likely you are getting an EGR failure code because some idiot installed the wrong computer in your truck.

1990-92 don't have EGR.

Some 1993's have EGR (mainly late year california emissions explorers)

Some 1994's do not have EGR (Most NON-California Rangers)
