im gonna start junk yard shopping soon for an 8.8 to swap into my ranger, i thought 4:10s were the highest there was but i just seen a chart that had ranger 8.8 axle code 98 as a 4:56 open. so is this correct and would there be a good chance of finding one? also if they do exist what years and models would they most likely be in?

If they do exist, you aint gonna find one without a horseshoe, a water finding tool, and an army. I dont think they ever came stock, except on maybe something like a fleet order.

They come standard in some NON-US/Canadian trucks. Take a look at the mexican ford site, and see what I mean. Basically you'll have to head to mexico, farther south or oversea's to get ahold of one.

i know they did come in some fx4 lvl2 trucks...

I have seen two Explorer Sports that were 4.56's. Both were owned by the State of Ohio Dept of Weights and Measures. I was told that the Ohio Department of Natural Resources also have several.

That's interesting. Why would you want a stock truck with 4.56s? It would have a very low top speed!

I wonder if they installed a notched crosspin at the factory?

Not questioning you, just think this is interesting.

I've seen lot's of oddball gov. and company fleet stuff, like 80's dually suburbans, etc. If your buying 1000's at a time, automakers tend to 'bend' the normal rules, and offer a lot more options.

Not that I don't trust ya, but do ya have any proof of them being stock? door code, pic of ring gear stamping from a diff. oil change etc.... I'm willing to bet they've been added before you bought the truck, or that you had them installed?

i just searched hollander for ratios and there is no listing for any ranger/explorer 8.8 with 4:56,not even the fx4 lvl2 according to my hollander interchange. i have never seen one in all the years of parting them out and building them.

Ha ha ha ha.....no US Ranger was sold to the private individual with 4.56 gears in them......some states DNR got them, but not a lot......

My info on this comes from a dealership........

Not to start a fight but stealerships are not always the most reliable source of info. Even those guys make assumptions which is where alot of misinformation comes from.
I agree, but the dealership I go to I would trust with anything.....I personally know the parts manager, the service manager, and by erous of their employees.....whenever I need a part I usually find it myself in their computer or the parts books......they are a small town dealership......
