ok, to start this thread, I will admit that I manhandled a nut with an impact gun and am an idiot:icon_confused:

I have a 99 ranger 2wd with a 4.0, auto trans, which I believe to be a 5r55E. I was trying to replace the external neutral switch to remedy a check engine code. after soaking the non moving nut with kroil for 2 days, it still wouldnt move. I hit it with an impact gun. The nut came off, but I also broke the internal pawl in the process.

I have fixed it, but since it was in pieces when I took it out, I dont exactly know how it goes back together.
Anyone have a good diagram? I searched this forum and internet for 5R55E internal linkage, but no great success.

here i the part that I broke:

and I need to know how this all goes back together:

I dunno what to tell you. Pawl A goes over shaft B with pin C in slot D of manual selector valve E. Tighten nut F.

Thanks for the reply. I got that much, but the rod that is on top, that connects to the pawl, appears to be flopping loose. I was hoping to see a diagram to see where it goes without dropping the valve body

It's just the parking pawl actuator. It will feel loose. Cycle the shifter through from park, to neutral, and back to park. If the pawl catches the truck it is in right.

ok, thanks. Thats what I was unsure of

Something is still not right. There is a 7-8" rod (see red arrow) that attaches to the pawl that goes over the valve body into the front of the trans that is completely not connected to anything. If the valve body were removed, it would just fall out.

Anyone have a diagram or exploded view of the trans?

I ended up removing the valve body and seeing with a mechanics mirror why the rod would not go far enough back.

The rod had fallen out of the hole, and the spring loaded parking brake bracket was half covering the hole.

I was able to get my finger up there and move it so the rod would go in. I just need to get new valve body gaskets now.
