Anyone else compete in a demo derby? This was my first year. A buddy and I went halfsies on the cost (which were actually very minimal, we got the car for free from my Uncle, still ran, but with a blown head gasket, he just wanted to get rid of it). He drove it this year, but next year we are going to have two cars in it so we both can be in on the action. Anyways here are some pics from last night. The demo derby is in the Benton-Franklin Country Fair in Kennewick, Washington.

Before: 1988 Plymouth Reliant - We know it's not the best car for the demo derby, but it was free so we just went with it.

We thought it'd do good in the racing part, but the car overheated just going out to compete for Best In Show, so we decided to skip the racing heats and just go for the demo. We were the smallest car in the field of about 30-40 cars, and we were about the 20th car knocked out. The car actually still runs! The car died and my friend who was driving tried cranking it over and it wouldn't start, but three cars were all speeding towards him so he broke the stick to DQ himself so they wouldn't smash him from three sides haha. But after cranking it some more he got it started (he was PISSSSSED!) and drove it back to the trailor and drove it on the trailor. We also got about 4th place in Best In Show. The car that one best in show was a older Camaro that was made to look like an old teal BelAir. It was actually really cool looking.

Anyways, anyone else compete in demo derbies?

Yep. Pulled a 92 Crown Vic off my grandpas wrecking yard. former policer vehicle. not much work. havent competed in 2 years though. I won first, but then had gold taken from me due to concrete in the doors, panels, trunk and the fight with the driver of the first car out. #7 Chevy Celebrity. he tried to say i tried to hurt him. crazy bastard

always wanted to, and i hopefully will someday, looks like a hell of a time

Thought about it, and if I had the opportunity to I would. My girlfriend's family has had a couple cars could have done it, but they got sold off instead... Oh well. So I just like to watch.

I bought a 75.00 car about 10 yrs. ago for a derby. Come to find out you need good working breaks.LOL I was'nt able to run in the derby but i was able to use the car on my quad track behind my house.

I have never been in one but I'd love to give it a shot. A bunch of my friends have been in them for years, they used to run the big 60's Chrysler Imperials and stuff like that, but have moved to smaller cars because the big ones are hard to find and aren't usually allowed anymore.

That dashboard is something else.

Just watched the one at my fair tonight. I would love to do one for next year.

Yeah they banned Imperials here. Can't have Imperials, El caminos, trucks, vans, SUV's, and such. But I'm already excited for next year. Already started looking for a new car, found a 1980 Thunderbird for $400

Do the front wheel drive cars compete by themselves in your areas? Here it's RWD, then the powder puff, then the "herbie derby" (FWD cars only)

No they all run together. But this year it was all screwed up because of the weather, we had a storm come through, so they just skipped time trials and went straight to the races. We usually will do time trials and then that places you in a "division" with other cars that are of similar times. But this year they just had everyone line up and did eight car races, no matter what order or class they were in. But yeah, it's not based on front wheel or rear wheel drive, just time trials..usually. We got time trials - races - powder puff - demo

I used to have a '75 Caddy Eldorado that was FWD with a 502... wonder how picky they would be about FWD cars?:icon_rofl:
