As most of my fellow hunters dug out their camouflage or blaze orange jackets and reached into the gun cabinet for their most trusted rifle, I was busy picking out my weapon of choice. For me, I reached into my pocket and pulled out the keys to my trusty 2001 Ranger. Driving home from hunting at a friends house, a nice 135lb doe decided it wanted to get a closer look at the front of my truck while it was doing about 55 mph. Took my baby in for a couple of estimates that hovered around $2400 and I am finally going in to get her fixed tomorrow. With a missing headlight, I have been pulled over by the cops a total of 6 times in the week and a half I had to wait to get my truck into the body shop. In any case, I snapped a few pictures of the damage for the hell of it. Will post up finished pics when done. Also planning on throwing some new tires on it and getting it aligned as soon as I get it back on Thursday-Friday. Until then, I have a nice Dodge Avenger from Enterprise to whip my donuts in.

As Ron White says, how elusive of an animal is it if I have killed more with my vehicles than I have with my guns? We all need to slow our bullets down to 55mph and put some little headlights on it and a little horn and they'd jump right in front of the damn thing.

you got off cheap. my dad hit one in an 87 e150 at 65 and it was 8k to fix it. but that was in 89 or 90. i hit one in a friends truck at 70 and all it took was 2 $1 cans or spray paint to fix

You got lucky it didn't tear more up.
Did you keep the deer?

im sorry but i dont see 2400 bucks worth of damage, i see 150 bucks for a new grille at a junkyard and 75 for a junkyard headlight.........oh yeah and 10 bucks for a case of beer while you fix it in your driveway.........where do you get 2400 bucks worth of work man?????

depending on my deductable, I'm with predator, If it's over 250.00, I'd fix it myself :) save the raised rates for someone else

i dont see any damage on the bumper, fender or hood, just the grill shell and the headlight....im sorry but when i think of deer damage i expect a taco'd hood, shattered grill and headlights, radiator pushed back into the cooling fan, rad support resting on intake, that is deer damage, what you have is a minivan backing into you at walmart. go to a junkyard and save your kids collage fund......

the only thing i see that could cost more is that piece behind the headlight thats cracked but who cares. Get the grill and light and do it for A LOT cheaper. Shit my dad slid into a trailor in his 07 F150 and destroyed the bumper. That only cost 1000 bucks. Do it yourself and save some money!

I think that is just a big scratch.

When I hit a deer with my F-150 it was $1700ish, that included a new front bumper, a new fender flare, and straightening and repainting my fender. All I see there is a grille and a headlight, your bumper may be having issues as well judging by the airdam gap.

^Well there ya go! Dude save the cash and get something cool for your truck.

the bumper is pushed in a bit on the side, nothing serious, if I didn't have a $50 deductible, I'd have fixed it myself and said to hell with it, but since I do, I'd rather someone else mess with it. My rates won't go up at all. Thats the nice part about having 5 cars, 2 4-wheelers, a snowmobile, and the house all on one policy. They tend to cut you some slack on occasion. In any case, a new bumper, headlight, grille assembly, refinishing the fender a bit, and the header thing behind the headlight only amounts to about $600 worth of parts and materials, the labor adds up to the other $1100 or so. Oh well, its only going to cost me $50 or so, and I made them throw in a front end alignment so I don't burn up my new tires I put on. I also have about 70lbs of fresh venison in the freezer to boot.

There's nothing better to warm you up while working on your truck than
a fresh pot of roadkill chili.

My recent roadkill was a turkey I took it in the windshield and my truck was out of commission for a week, now the truck is back together and whatever isn't covered with a layer of ice is hidden in thick fog...

That's $2400?

I guess I would put my trucks damage at a couple hundred thou'. I need to call my insurance agent so I can collect and retire.

That truck held up damn good for a deer strike. Hard to believe how little damage it did...

Body shop labor also needs to be taken into consideration. They add that into the quotes too. I got rear ended by a BMW 325i (pretty sharp cars)....pushed the bumper in and scuffed the bed, and slightly cracked the driver side tail light. They estimated that at $650 dollars, needless to say I only spent $75 of that on repair and the rest on bills.

Ive farted in my ranger and did more damage than that deer did!!!! gotta love seat covers.
