I haven't been able to find a thread here that covers this topic. I've got an 88 Bronco II 2.9L Manual 4x4. My dash lights and my exterior lights are on the same circuit, as it came from the factory. Everything on that circuit (taillights, front amber lights, all dash lights, and the lights-on chime) randomly goes dead. Occasionally, a good firm whack on the dash gets it to light up, but it doesn't always happen that way. I've checked as many grounds as I can find, although if it were a ground issue, I think some lights would work and some won't. Headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and reverse lights always work without problem.
Might the switch be going bad?

Yes, one possibility is that it's the main light switch. I doubt it's the multifunction switch, as the dash lights don't go through it. Next time the lights act up, whack and wiggle on the light switch, instead of the dash, to see if you can narrow down the problem area. Or just pull it out for a visual inspection and testing.

Other possibilities, are a bum connection, like in the fuse block or a harness connector. Can't rule out a bad ground, but you've got a good point about the lack of other issues.

The light switch would be my prime suspect. Patience, and good luck with it. And welcome to TRS.
