Think I've decided on a welder and I'm going to go with a Hobart handler 140.

I will say a 115v welder has built my truck to this point and its holding up fine. I do have a 220v outlet but since I'm in a rental house and I plan on moving out of it one day, nothing says the next place will have a 220v in it.

I just bought one of those like 5 months ago, my brother picked up a tank of 75/25 argon/co2 mix, very easy machine to use. I'd never welder before and I was laying down ok beads after 15 min of toying with it.

I have to be able to weld 1/4 steel but also do body work too and it seems like it can do both for me.

Now I'm just waiting on my tax return to show up in at the most 2 more weeks.

I think the book says you have to do 2 passes to do 1/4".

If you prep it right and take your time, one will do. Just be sure to grind down the edges where your going to weld so that it can penetrate better. It's made to do 24 gauge to 1/4 inch steel according to Hobart.

Its possible I guess. You prolly have more experience with welding than I do, just going off what it says on my handler 140.

What about getting a duel voltage machine? I have a miller 211 and it will run on 120 or 240. Just change the end of the plug as provided.

I don't have the $700+ to get one like that. My fiancee almost lost it when I told her that the one I'm getting is $500.

Only thing stopping me from going and buying it is paying off the rest if the bills this month, going and doing food shopping and finishing unpacking the house since we moved. The weekend isn't enough time to get things done but also the weather outside doesn't help either.

Due to negative tennis about every night, had to invest into a battery charger/maintainer. It tried to crank over before this but after a month, it gave me the finger. So I'll let it charge over night and it will automatically go from charging to maintaining.

Well I did it, bought a welder. Comes with cart, gas regulator, helmet, wire brush/hammer, wire, etc... exactly the same welder I used to build my truck but now I will have my own.

Add $75 to the price for shipping.

Congrats! What's your first project gonna be? For the house or the truck?

Trackbar reinforcement on the truck. It flexes quite a bit and effects my turning. Going to weld angle iron around all the outside edges along with redoing some welds on it and also going to weld brackets on it so that I can bolt it to the frame better. The part that is on the under side of my frame isn't bolted, only the side is.

Oh yeah the track bar needs to be secured to the side and bottom of the frame rail. I learned that by ripping mine off lol.
