dangerranger1983 build

One diesel I would love to have is a Detroit, ya a 2cycle. I'd have to go onto 4btswap.com and look up more info on them. I read that the 3-53 is about 600lbs. has a manual fuel pump and can be turboed, may come that way too. But thats a few years down the road.

As far as tires go, was told by a guy at my woek who hs a set of M/T tires with about 500mies on them and is selling them but he doesnt know how much and they are for 15 inch rims and are 32 inch tires. Told him to get pics. and his friend and see if we can work something out.

As for rims, found a set on summit for $47 each. When Im getting all of this, not sure but I hope soon.

People still ask why didnt I just buy a newer truck. I respond because if I did that, I'd still do the samething to it.

WOW! you have done so much to it underneath! good job my man... I remember when me and you were still both tinkering on our engines and stuff.. its nice you have moved to BIGGER things no pun intended lol...

keep it up i cant wait to see more pics

so whats next?

Let's hope the shocks show up tomorrow, start driving her again, sucks I'm driving the famiy van.

How did you end up mounting the coils up top? Did you have to modify the buckets? Dont think I read anything about it

Well I bent the factory tabs so that it would allow the coil to seat in the made my own j-hooks and bolted them to the coil bucket. Remember, the tops of my coils are like the bottom of a rangers coils. I'll get picks of them tomorrow for you all, hopefully the shocks will be in the pictures. If they do come, test driving around my neighborhood then off to the real streets, nervous about that.

I need to look around at custom steering linkages that have been done, though I have an idea of what I'm going to make.

I still think my trackbar mount is flexing but need another person to turn my wheel while I'm under it looking, that's tomorrows job.

Oh ya, and get the driveshaft modded.(before winter too)

Shocks came in today. Skyjacker 8000 Nitro for a jeep. Decided to do the bar pin bottom and stud top. Took her out driving around town but not much due to traffic time.

Heres a pic. of the coil in the top bucket.

What does bump steer feel like when driving/turning? I can tell my tires are toe in a bit but not to concerned at the moment. Track straight, when I apply the brakes it doesnt go to one side or the other but I can fell the rust on the rotors being worn off but the braking fells just as good as the original brakes. Put the front on a tall curb on my way home and the body stayed level, cant say the same when I had my TTB under it. Fastest I got was 45mph in town with EVERYBODY riding my ass........

Hopefully going to the J/Y tomorrow to find a vehicle with a manual choke on it and scrap off the TTB front.

More to come soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bump steer is when driving and hit the small to moderate bumps in the road and the steering wheel will turn on its own, usually not much.

I would say the track bar mount is flexing. Mine did alot until i reinforced it, ran a brace from bottom link bolt to engine crossmember. You should get some kind of sway bar hooked up to be safe. Mine leans alot and makes me a little nervous when I have it disconnected around corners. Connected it corners comfortably.

I'm not going to change my steering much except make the smaller driverside tube bigger. I seen a guy in a TJ just weld 1" angle the whole length, that would be a very cheap mod.

Aren't you holding the steering wheel:icon_confused: Assuming you hold the steering wheel steady when you hit the bump the truck will steer left or right, hence the phrase "bump steer" :icon_thumby:

crossover should justabout eliminate any bumpsteer. as far as the 1'' angle. that is exactly what we did to my buddie's jeep as he bent his original right up against the pumpkin. so we took the original one from my axle cut a piece of angle to length and layed 2'' bead's down each side alternating side to side so the end had 2'' of weld then 2'' gap then 2'' weld and so on

I though it meant a "bump look" in the steering linkage, that what others refer bump steer to.

I'm not exactly gettin what your talking about with the angle iron and welding it....pictures may help me out.

As for hitting bumps...I can't feel them, my ride is so smooth. I'll try to find some rougher roads, but need to put gas in her tomorrow, 1/8 of a tank left due to my high idle issue that is being caused by my faulty choke.

Basically bump steer is when you hit a bump, your truck steers, weather you are holding the steering wheel and it makes your tires turn or your not and the steering wheel turns....same thing. If your truck isn't darting around you probably don't have it. It come from the track bar length and drag link length being different mostly. They swing at a differet arc as you cycle the suspension causing the 2 things to become out of phase.

Both my drag link and track bar are factory parts from the same type of vehicle so I dont think I have it. I went over as many bumps as I could today when going to get gas and it didnt want to do any of that. One thing I need to get hooked up is the steering shock, though dont know if I really need it at the moment. But the one I have wont work due to when hooked up and I turn right, it maxes out before I can get a full turn of the wheel.

Other then my track bar flexing, drives nicely though still need to get all the crud off the rotors, if I cant do that then Im after new ones, or get these re-surfaced which may be the cheaper way to go.

Well while my dad and I were under the hood trying to figure out my choke (we didnt make it to the J/Y today) trying to figure out how to adjusy it and its a non adjustable, my truck just died. Well after a few minutes of feeling around and looking, the coil took a puke, it was hot. But for a 27 year old coil, I would expect it to. So a quick trip to Autozone, shes up and running again. Also bled the brakes somemore and got somemore air out of the lines took her around the neighborhood block, got up to 35mph hit the brakes and squaled the front tires to stop in about 20foot or less plus it didnt pull to one side or the other.

sound's like your steering is good to go. as far as bump steer you would know if you had it. as far as the angle iron I will try and post a pic when my buddie's TJ is around next time.

sounds like you are enjoying driving it around

Im going to be making the steering set-up that you have next spring.

As far as driving, having a blast, cant wait to get it driving in the mud. Getting more comfortable driving it not nearly as nervous.

But on my todo list is to build a winch thing that hooks to the bed of my truck that I can use to help drag a deer into my bed up a 12x2 board. I have a new boat winch that Im going to use for it. Would go electric winch, but dont have the money for that right now.
