i want to put the full snap ring style u joints into my dana 35 ttb front end this week, the question i got is that if i dont finish at night, is it possible to put the spindles and all back on without the axle in and drive the truck in two wheel drive

yes, u dont ahve to have axles in the truck inorder to drive it, hell u dont even need to have to front pig in to drive it

cool thans man, i just have to drain the front diff so it dont leak out of the axle holes right? i am still trying to work somethign out on your lift too btw.

ya man, just drain the diff, and let me know, not to put a rush on ya but the sooner the better, tryin to have the other truck delivered friday night, and have it done after a straight through weekend of wrenching

thanks bro, hey what kind of snorkel setup are you selling with that 4.0?

I would recommend against running full-circle snap rings on your front joints. I have found that they cause the cap to spin freely and "egg" out the ears of the shafts, ruining them. I ruined a set of shafts in a little over a year with full-circles.

What I'd recommend is to use the stock clips and tack weld them to the ear so they can't pop out. Also, you can put 4 small tack welds on top of the cap to the ear. These two steps will ensure that the cap does not spin, and that you won't spit out a clip. It will also save some time as you won't have to grind down the ears. To get the joint apart you'll have to grind off the tack welds; it's not too hard. I can usually have a welded joint apart in a few minutes.

really, thanks for the help, what u joints do you run in them, the origional? i heard the ones with the full snap ring are forged instead of cast and are alot less prone to breaking

I don't run the original joints, I run Spicer 760x joints. They offer the best strength for your money. A 760x can support up to 38" tires on a locked axle, if the clips and caps are tacked into place. They cost around $25 each.

A 760 is technically a Dana 44 joint, but it is 100% compatible with a Dana 35.

The joints he is using in that article (an I use) come with half clips just like the stock joints. But he went out and bought full snap rings to replace the half clips.

oh ok, so cant i put full snap rings in and tack caps to keep em from spinning in the axle bore? actually that kinda sounds like a huge waste of time compared to tacking the half clips. thanks for the help

I would not suggest making a habbit out of driving with out the front pig in,when the pig is out it dont take much to bend the beam then.
