ok so im doing the dana 35 swap on my 87 bronco 2....i left the spring perch and nut for one side at the junkyard....can i use the nut for the coil spring on the 28 for my 35 or is it a different size? Also anyone who has replaced the outer axle seals on the diff im assuming there is a c-clip holding the axle in so ill have to remove the diff?

also can you use the manual hubs for the 28 on the dana 35?....i need some manual hubs if anyone has any!

Hubs are different (the D28 axle shaft is much tinier).

The nut I'm not so sure on. I've heard reports that the studs (bolts) are the same, but they are inverted on the D28 (smaller end into the axle beam), which would mean the retainer nut for the coil would then be bigger, but I can't recall actually having seen this myself (though admittedly I never paid much attention to it either).

I do know D44 (F-150/Bronco) studs are the same as the D35 ones (with the same orientation) so you could pilfer a nut from a FS truck if needed.

Yes, passengerside shaft is held in with a circlip (E-clip) inside the diff.

thank you good sir...ill just make a trip back to the junkyard and get that other nut then. Just wanted to make sure before i tore everything down and needed it

I have flipped D28 bolts on my D35. It'll work.

The Beam end of the spring retaining stud is 5/8"-11 thread,
the D35 Spring stud is 3/4-9 thread on both ends

The top (spring) end of the stud is typically 3/4-10 thread on all of them
and has the same 1-1/8" hex head as the radius arm nut

My '94 D35, my '92 D44 and a friend's '93 D35 all have 3/4 inch threads inside the beam, the coil retainer nut side is a 5/8" thread.

yeah ill still need the bigger size nut though so a trip to the jyard is inevitable

I got nuts from... TSC I think, might have been some other store. Any fastener retailer would have something. Get grade 8 or better.
