I was wondering... Maybe this is crazy but... Would a jeep Dana 35 locker ever work in a ranger Dana 35 axle? I don't know enough about the differences to figure it out. I'm pretty sure that lockers on chevy vs ford Dana 44 axles are interchangeable.

Thanks!
Alex

on aussie lockers web site, a 90-97 ford ttb dana 35 has the same part number for locker as a 1984-1993 cherokee xj or wrangler 1987-1993. part number xd-13527.

With drop-in type lockers (Aussie, LockRight, etc.) you have to be careful, there are some internal differences in the differential carrier that will prevent interchanging of the Jeep and Ford lockers (probably being the later Jeep version that's different).

However with full-carrier replacement lockers (ARB, Detroit, etc.), any & all will fit either axle housing.

The ring & pinion gears are not swappable though (Ford TTB front uses a Hi-Pinion setup, whereas jeeps are all std Lo-pinion).

Very true. I found this out the hard way, truck torn apart all over the place and then WTF it doesn't fit? Are you kdding me...had to pay out the ass for the right one.

I ordered this one for my 1996 mazda b4000: http://www.aussielocker.com/item.php/TM41fa24/9de2/06/106015/.html

Aussie wouldn'y return it without a restocking fee and the guy I talked to just kept saying I ordered the wrong one. Um no I didn't I just ordered what you have listed? Whatever. Maybe the should update their listings?

Ended up getting a lock-rite p/n 2311 (TRS lists 2110 as the one for my truck, this is the same as Aussie p/n XD-13527 i believe).

Went down to my local diff shop with my dana 35 carrier and the nice gentleman took one look at my carrier and said "this happens all the time man" and with that he said I'll be right back and he came back with a lock-rite 2311 and it we test fit it in the carrier and it worked. Too bad their list price was fairly expensive, but it was worth it to not have to wait for one to be shipped, I had it that day.

So the aussie you sold me didn't fit in yours?

so does that mean I can swap a jeep Dana 35 arb into my axle with no problem? I'm a little confused around what you wrote about the ring and pinion not being interchangeable.

Yes, you can use the jeep d35 ARB.

You cannot use the ring and pinion from a jeep rear d35 as it is a low pinion differential, and the TTB d35 is high pinion.

No it didn't but apparently I have an oddball carrier (there is some variances during the years that this carrier was produced, resulting in two different applications, according to the guy who sold me a lock-rite p/n 2311) Should fit your's, if it doesn't let me know please. That one I sold you is the one that ppl buy all the time and install with no problems.

The one that fits mine (Lock-rite p/n 2311, is the jeep one I believe. The Aussie XD-13527 is the equivalent of a Lock-rite 2310 that is sold here on TRS all day long).

No worries about it fitting!

It's been in there for a couple months now, works good! :icon_thumby:

The weird thing is about 3 years ago I ordered a lockright that didn't fit in my d35 carrier which I ended up returning. Strange stuff.

Ok good, I was starting to panic lol. But yeah I haven't figure it all out yet, just FYI for ppl buying a Lock-Rite or Aussie Locker for their dana 35, there are two part numbers that each company offer for the dana 35, and if the one you order doesn't fit, send it back and order the other one.

Just to add a little further...

High-pinion gears (typically seen in front axles) have the drive pinion set above the axle's centerline, whereas a low-pinion is below centerline. You cannot interchange them because the gear teeth are cut differently (the teeth would cross 90° to each other if you tried to swap them). The differential carrier itself however is the same regardless of the gears.

Hope that clarifies it.
