i am looking for somewhere to buy a ring and pinion set for my axle it has 4.10 gears and im not sure if i need to go with dana 28 or dana 35 ring and pinion sets. any ideas what i need to look for and where i could find the gears it would be greatly appreciated.

You have 4 options:

1- With a hybrid you'll need a D28 R&P. This seems strange though....most hybrid axles were 4.10's....mostly behind 4cyl's.

2-Find a hybrid axle with 4.10's already, and swap in.

3- Upgrade to a "true" D35 and regear it. Swap it in along with the proper inner shafts.

4- Find a already 4.10 geared D35 chunk and swap it in. J-yard from a 90-92 4cyl Ranger.

Finding a center section that's alreay set-up will greatly lower the cost. In my opinion, the hybrid is not worth regearing, and the only way I'd keep it is if I never played off road and already had the 4.10's. Either way, I see this as a chance to upgrade, and spending money to regear a true D35 chunk is money more wisely spent. Good luck.:icon_thumby:

ok now that i know i need a dana 28 ring and pinion where can i buy it from? any suggestions?

Guys...

If he has a Hybred D28/35 he MUST get a gearset made specifically for the hybred.

The pinion in a hybred has a longer shank.

a conventional D28 pinion won't fit the hybred housing.

does anyone know where i can get the gearset thats made specifically for the hybred, or is ford my best option?

Didnt know that. I should have though.

Well shoot....

I didn't know that either. But we're always learning!

Seems to me like your best bet is to snag a hybrid center section with gears already set. Want mine? For the right price I'll rip it right outa there, since I'm planning on upgrading sooner or later anyways.

Or just swap in a true D35 center section.

how much would you want for yours and where are you located at?

Don't waste time on th hybrid. Swap in a D-35. Look for a Sploder with 4.10's already installed and swap both front and rear axles. You will have a much stronger setup that way. The Hybrid and 7.5 aren't worth spending money on and you should be able to pick up a set of axles cheaper than getting gears installed.

No 4.10s in TTB sploders (look in '90-'92 4cyl trucks, some of these had 4.10 D35s)

REAL D35's out of gen2 4cyl 4x4's are few and far between.

I happoen to know where there's a hybred D35 chunk with 4.10's, but it
seems kida pointless to swap in a hybred when swapping in a REAL D35
is no more difficult.

If you have to buy gears I'd recommend getting ANY D35 chunk from a junkyard
(or one of the yard crawlers who answer posts in the WTB forum)
and put REAL D35 gears in that.
