Anyone got an idea on how to keep the wheel bearing lock nuts from backing off? The problem happens more on the left side, where the wheel spins the same way the threads loosen.

Torque the piss out of the outer nut.

the inner one has a small pin that comes out of it (inner should be hand tight) wich goes into a hole in the washer that comes after it that goes into a groove in ur axeshaft thing then comes the outer that should be set to 180-200 ftlbs and that should hold it my pin has broken before just check and make sure its there if not ur gonna need a new inner and it will solve the problem

I got in to it a couple of weeks ago and found the pin in the inner nut had sheered off. Replaced it with a 3/32 roll pin. When I took it apart today, the pin was still there, but i discovered the washer that holds the pin had started to clime on the treads of the spindle. The threads were a little "wallerd" out to. So I decided to take the nut from my old automatic hubs that came on the truck, and modify it. The manual Warn hub it too small in diameter to fit over the auto-hub nut. Took the bench grinder to it and ground the flange on the back of the nut down. It's still 6 sided- sorta. Pulled the roll pin out of the inner wheel bearing nut, put it on, tightened the modified auto-hub nut against it, and put the little key in that holds the auto-hub nut from spinning loose. Wheel is on and I'm about go drive it. I will yank it apart and check it when I get back.

That's one way to do it.

I've always torqued the outer locknuts on mine to 250ft-lbs. Never have had one come loose.
As for the washer tab, if you have a welder, weld a small dab of metal onto the end of the tab, then shape it with a Dremel or small grinder so that it'll stick down deeper into the spindle groove when you put it on.

It also may be possible to bend the washer oval slightly in a vise so the tab reaches down into the groove better too, though beware, they are fairly brittle.
