how the hell do you get the drivers side axle seal out of a dana 35? its in a
'95 ford ranger. it looks impossible to get out and put back in with out removing the whole pig! my bad ujoint caused it to leak, so im changing it, but cant see a way of doing this! i need help asap! truck is down!:dntknw:

I had mine go a few years back.

I had to remove the drivers side axle (no c-clip). Then basically break the old seal, now in 2 pieces, out. Clean out the innards I could reach. I used the hub locknut socket to tap the new seal in place. Then VERY gently slide the axle back in and put the entire outer back together. Took about 3 hours.

i already have the axle out, i was doing my ujoint. i can reach my hand in there, probably pull the old one out, but how can i "tap" the new one back in???? the hub lock socket is a good idea, but how do i hit the socket to get the seal into place? put an extention on it and hammer it?????? thanks for the help!

I made a long T. I welded a 2" or so peice of steel to a rod about a foot or 2, and wiggled it in there so I could tap it in.
The bolts for the radius arms get in the way.

damn! well thanks for the help everyone, sounds like a pain i.t.a. no matter what. i gave up for the night but i'll be out there in the morning!

hey tim, hows those 35's?

Not sure yet.
I like to wheel them, dont really like them on the road. They tend to wander a bit. I only had 20 psi in them and they wandered like hell. Added some air and they are better.
I am a little gun shy, the first time out I busted up the front axle a little. So I have been taking short trips to the creek bed to flex her out a little and then back to the shop to check it over.
This sunday there is a big play day over in Bath, NY. That will be the real test.
Have you had a chance to install the 4.10s yet?

not yet! i just got my 33's last week. if i can get the ujoint ordeal over early enough, im going to put the body lift on this week end, then put the tires on. i probably wont be able to put the gears in for a month or so (my friends going to have to help me with that one!). so im going to use the 3.73 for a while, im sure its going to suck with 33's!
