Im trying to pull my passenger side axle shaft apart. I have everything off and ready to pull shaft apart through the knuckle but it will only pull out about an inch and stops. Am I missing something or is this a common problem. I have the the boot loose and can watch the shaft slide back and forth but it will not come all the way out. Please any help I would be thankful for.

is it stopping in the splines or is the U joint stuck at the knuckle? the U joints like to get jammed at the knuckle unless you get everything in the right orientation about half the time...

The outer shaft might be stuck due to suction, or even corrosion inside the boot. The inner shaft will not come out without removing the "E" clip inside the front differential.

I dont want to remove the the inner shaft if I dont have to. Im just trying to remove the outter portion to replace the ball joint. No its not hitting the knuckle its binding in the splines and its not suction. Is this a common problem?

pry it out, not really anything to hurt...

Pry & Tap, Tap, Tap it out!

Like they said, just yank the bitch out. That boot is alot tougher than people give it credit for, threw me for a loop too. We are all assuming you have the spindle removed, right?
