dana 35/ 8.8 swap drive shaft question

i am near completion of assembling/rebuilding a dana 35 that i will putting in my 88 standard cab ranger long bed i have a quesiton about the driveshaft modification. the tech library says that it needs to be shortened an inch to and inch and a half.. is there no exact length that needs to be taken out? or does it vary by application? just need to know what i need to tell the guys at the driveshaft shop to do when i bring it in

now the 8.8 i got ready to go. bought it with perches welded at the correct angle and all that jazz.. should i just go and get a drive shaft from a 1990 or newer ranger with the same bed and cab length.? or is there an adapter plate of some kind so i can reuse my existing shaft.?

I grabbed a explorer manual transfer case and front driveshaft so I didn't have to deal with that... the front output on my T case is shot anyway.

for the rear shaft, measure your U joint width and the size of the caps on it with a caliper, my '89 has the same U joint as the 8.8 so i grabbed the yoke from an explorer driveshaft from the junk yard and am going to put it on my stock driveshaft when I do the swap, the other option is to get the yoke and a conversion U joint, they are somewhat spendy but would get you by

If you're lifting the truck, 1" is fine out of the front driveshaft. 1½" would probably be better if it was remaining at stock height.
