If you swap in the D35, you can get the transfer case and drive-line from the same truck so you won't need to shorten the front shaft.

91-94 if you're getting them from the same vehicle. 95-up has a different front end although at some point on the later models they put disc brakes on the rear, which are nice to have.So what is the best year to get the rear and D35 from a explorer.
Pretty much, yes.And if i decide not to get a transfer case from the explorer the only custom fabrication is to get the front shaft shortened about a inch?
