why do I need to shorten the drive shaft when u put in a TTB 35?

the D35 3rd is bigger than a d28, i think the t-case's have different front outputs as well

seems like i read that if you swap in a 1354, you can use the front driveshaft from the donor vehicle and not have to shorten it.

someone else can confirm this for you

yes as far as i know that is true but you will still have to do some measuring to make sure:icon_thumby:

Correct, if you also swap to a 1354 t-case and front driveshaft, it'll all bolt in.

Note: Anyone without the FM146, M5OD or A4LD transmission need not apply here, you'll still have to shorten the shaft due to all other (earlier) transmissions being shorter.
