daily doubler build

Yep I'm looking at putting a cam in it and doing some port/gasket matching while I have it apart. That's probably all I'd like to do internally anyways. Other supporting external mods can come when finances allow.

SVT - The tires and wheels are claimed already. It's 2wd, and has an auto trans. Interior is full of scrap/garbage - no seats or console left. I had planned to scrap it. If you're still interested we may be able to work something out.

That would be a better option, but those M90's are hard to come by...B, I was under the impression it was 4x4, looking for a fixer upper for Brandizzle to start wheeling, she's tired of the XJ breaking every time she takes it on a trail and she'd like to get a Ranger, or at least an RBV...
SVT

I found a m90 on craigslist a couple months ago for likee 130$, I didnt have the time or money to deal with it though

If you find it again, I'd buy that one for $130:icon_surprised: Of course I'd have to source a second to bolt to my motor:headbang:

Yeah, about the only thing desirable is the engine, and I'm stealing that :D

Dual turbo's from a Tbird TC have worked exceptionally well for trail rigs, boost and power down low are great...
SVT
it would still be a mess to deal with and with the small turbo's would kill anything over 4K rpm...

its just not worth it on the type of wheeling we do at 2-3 MPH...maybe in the KOH where 800+ HP is needed

yea id say thats about really all that needs to be done, with that doubler youll be rolling good

Got a decent amount done this weekend. Got the 4.0 outta the explorer. Wasn't as bad as I had expected. The engine itself is, however. It's pretty rusty/nasty. If it was a super clean engine I'd almost consider just throwing it in my truck as is. Unfortunately its gonna need some attention.

Looking to tear the engine down this coming weekend so I can take everything into the machine shop to get checked out.

Lift wasn't high enough

That'll do

I got the engine torn down today (for the most part). It'll be a miracle if I get this thing put together and it actually runs.

Anyways, yanked the heads off and wasn't 100% happy with what I saw. I dunno, maybe this is normal, but there seemed to be a decent amount of buildup on the pistons themselves. Cylinder walls seemed good though.

The center cylinder on both sides look a bit worse off than the others.

Spark plugs look fairly consistent between the cylinders, and none were bad enough to cause concern (IMO).

On to the pics:

Yep, its a pretty grungy block.

I was hoping to get the 3.0 pulled from my truck tomorrow, but I've got a birthday party to go to at 11a, then I've got senior design at school from 1-7p. There goes my weekend. Only one day a week to work on this is killing me.

Got the 3.0 yanked outta the ranger yesterday. I think the electrical issues I'm going to run into are going to be more difficult than I had anticipated. The explorer had a lot of "component specific" individual plugs if you will, while my ranger has all the component plugs run to a couple master plugs at the firewall. Oh well, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Another 1 workday week. Gotta run to school today.

Still waiting on my heads to get back from the machine shop, and need to order a rebuild kit, gasket kit, and cam.

Throw some 95tm heads on it, with the 94 pistons should get you approx 10:1 compression and a decent bump in power. Send a PM TEE REV's way, he's got a lotta parts and a lota of knowledge on building 4.0L's.

Good to know. I've been talking to a guy on Pirate that seems to know his way around a 4.0L as well. The more contacts the better.

If my heads are good (no cracks) I'll just run them. I've already got money invested in getting them cleaned up. If it turns out they're no good I'll consider running other heads. What's 95tm?

Your looking for 95-97' heads, 98'+ have smaller exhaust ports but can be made to flow as well as 95-97's with a lot of portwork.

The 94' and older heads have larger combustion chambers and using the newer style heads bumps the compression up a bit. If you contat Trevor (TEE REV) he can give you the full info...I'm just remebering bits and pieces.

Ahh, I see. Like I said, we'll see how mine turn out. I know the bump in CR probably wouldn't be enough to cause concern, but I'm hesitant to increase it too much. Tryin to keep the head gaskets in place.

Been WAY too long, bump for updates!!
