daily doubler build

I ordered the OX without a cable. I'm just going to used their "Drive Away Lock". Manual locker engagement and disengagement right at the diff. I thought of that idea like a year ago and told my buddy I should design one. Low and behold, it already exists on the market. That happens far too often.

My canoe is ~13.5' long if that helps you at all.

Yep, that's my C.A.T. sticker, haha. Luckily I never had to use it.

I'm sure the drive away lock is a good back up but that would be a major pain in the ass! It's a threaded bolt on your diff, meaning any time you want to unlock it you have to crawl under your rig with a couple wrenches..... I'd just throw a Detroit in!

I'm going with a grizzly, less moving parts than the Detroit, cheaper and stronger. I researched OX a couple years ago, they are not for the DD trucks, as they constantly need adjusting. Maybe you will have better luck with the bolt style...

I can't assure disengagement with a Detroit. I think it'd still chew my tires up on the street. I want to control when it is and isn't locked.

The drive away lock will just be one more step to bring the truck to trail trim status. While the tires are airing down I stiffen up my shocks (Rancho 9000's). Now I'll just have to squat under my bed and thread it a little bolt and snug up the set screw. Should be easy peasy. I'll stay locked while I'm offroad. I like my welded diff when wheeling, I just hate it on the street.

No adjustment necessary with the bolt. Positive mechanical engagement and disengagement via the bolt. Plus it's only ~30 bucks vs the $100+ cable setups.

I dunno, I had mine for 4 years with no issues as far as tire wear goes. My trucks usually too damn dirty to be bothered climbing under after I'm done wheeling.

If your mtrs are anything like mine they'll chop to shit even with an open diff

This is certainly something I need to look into.

I like simple. This is just that. No cables to run. No buttons to wire up. No compressors to plumb and you have full control of its function. I like.

The kayak rack is nice, much better then my old setup haha.

Detroit's lock when power is applied and unlock when its not. Meaning you go into a turn while applying the skinny pedal and you'll get tire chirp. Or you coast while turning locker disengages, no chirp.

I only get tire chirp only when I take a turn hard and throttle through it.

Man I dig that you keep managing to make this truck do more and more! Being able to bounce back and forth from doing DD, to 'adventure wheeling' (love that title), and wheeling the harder stuff is awesome.

you must of either
a. made it look to easy
b. made it look to hard
c. where no fun to watch
d. made the Jeep/Yota guys angry lol

didn't get to see much of you on there, unless it all happened in the first 15 mins.

a. and c. go hand in hand. It wasn't a walk in the park by any means, but we didn't have any issues either. We followed the same tracks as everyone else. That being said, I don't have the most 'spectator friendly' driving style either. I crawled most of what some guys would throttle up/over/through. I think that contributed to our over 5000 mile trip without any mechanical issues (less drive shaft CV bearing) also.

The event was also sponsored by Jeep last year, so more Jeep coverage was expected. I don't have the most flashy rig, I crawl everything I can, and we didn't have any issues - all of which would minimize our exposure.

We went on the trip for the experience, not to be praised in the mag and dvd. I'm more than pleased with the coverage.

Update on the rig:

I got the OX installed and it's been working well. I love it on the street. I should've done it a long time ago. Completely transparent on the street and the mechanical engagement with the bolt works just as expected.

Shortly after that, my passenger side rear spring hanger rusted through, pushing my spring up into my bed. I ordered an aftermarket (OEM design) replacement and got that swapped out last weekend.

The truck is still carrying out DD duties. The house has been keeping me busy, but I'm looking to get in the woods a few more times this year. I'll have to upload pics of the OX install and hanger replacement for you guys.
