daily doubler build

Bout time we see some progress.....

If I would have known you were going to do a 4.0 swap I could have givin you everything out of mine and all you would of needed was a 4.0 lower end....I pretty much gave it away anyways....

I havent gotten anywhere on mine. Its sitting in the yard, to sloppy to move, working on girlfriends car, but I have had time to get the 79 f150 going again....so at least I have something to wheel!!!! haha

Yeah my first 4.0 was free. I thought I was gonna rebuild it. I found that process to be way too time consuming and expensive. I'm hoping this new one I've got lined up will be a strong runner already.

Here's the pics of the two plugs I was talking about, and the bend in the trac bar. I should've got a pic with the axle at full bump, but I didn't feel like movin shit around so I could get the jack under it again.

The first is your ECU, undo the bolt on each side of it, and it will slide out, your new ECU will go in the same place. The second is the 42 pin plug that we talk about, this will plug straight into your 4.0L (or 5.0L explorer) engine harness, and is plug and play. Make sure you get the trans harness as well, which should be intergrated into the engine harness via a 12 or 16 pin plug located about the center of the top of the bellhousing. :icon_thumby:

Yep, I remember that plug as well. The 4.0 Ex is an auto, and I'll be putting an m5od behind it. Does that matter? Thanks for all the help man.

Anytime, Bray. Yes, and no. It will run, but you will have codes out the a$$ cause its searching for the trans. Might idle funny too. If you can source a 95+ 4.0L ranger that had a manual trans, all you need is the ECU from it, nothing else. The engine harnesses are the same ( auto and manual), just the trans harness is different. You can also use a tuner to delete the auto trans if you have one of those :icon_thumby:

Cool beans. There's still a lot of work to do, but I feel like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel haha. Probably just because I have a better understanding of how this thing is going to work. :icon_thumby:

A while back I was thinking about getting a tuner, seen it on another forum, I think he wanted $100 for it, it was an SCT tuner for 96 rangers....I can dig it up if your interested...
SVT

Well, I just read the specs on it from SCT, looks like its for V8 engines, it don't have a listing for the ranger...

haha thanks for the legwork. I'll probably see how it runs with the auto ECU. I'm not worried about the codes, my check engine light is burnt out anyways :D

If it runs like shit I'll start by replacing the ECU with one like you suggested.

Trans harness from my 3.0 is the same as the one for the 4.0 right? They're both m5od's. Should be the same, just different bell housing.

Do I need to switch the transmission guts back? I'm getting good at it!

That's a yes on the trans harness, shouldn't have a problem with that...
SVT

bray you might want to look for a computer, i fried my original and threw in an auto to get me by for a while it ran alright was just funky and had alot less power

Thanks SVT, sounds good.

slo-vo, I'll probably look to grab one. The fewer chances of failure the better.

Its up to you man. Like I said, I feel like a complete ass. If you don't want to tackle it again, I'm more than willing to figure out how to do it myself.

I did get Explorer #2 down to the shop today. Here's a cell pic of it in all its glory:

My Dad had surgery this week and is in the hospital, so I'm gonna run down and see him tomorrow. I'm Hoping to get a good start on this thing before the weekend is over though.
