D4 or L73

I have looked at many posts for the difference between an L73 and D4 code on 8.8 3.73 rear ends. I know the D4 says 3200 on all of the listings. So what is the actual difference?

D4 is from the explorer and has the 31 spline axle shifts which are slightly larger than the 28 spline in the 3L73 (R6). Both have the trac lok (limited slip with clutches).
