Planning to swap to 44 outers on my ranger! I have all the parts, Just have a couple question.

Do the d44 outers stick out any further then the d35 outers? (track width difference?)

Should i get adapters to make the front wheels 5x4.5, Or adapt the rear to 5x5.5? (have wheels available for either lug pattern)

What are some of the adavantages?

Would my rear carrier fit into the 8.8 from f150, Was thinking since there both 8.8's Then i can just swap rear axle and not need spacers. (spacers=weak link)

I searched and couldn't come up with answer for these questions. Feel free to post pics. Would like to see more pics if there out there!

Post pics!!!

Thanks, Jake

Not sure on the extra width but it does add some. As for the rear I went with the Yukon Super 88 kit. Chromalloy axles and C-clip eliminator. Stock F150 wheels now. Couldn't be happier.

there's also an article in the tech library about the swap

Thats where i got my info on the swap from the beginning but it doesn't answer the questions i asked.

Also read through that aswell. if i found the answers i wouldn't have made a thread. I do know how to search. but what do you do when search doesn;t answer your questions? You make a thread...and thats what this is.

Thanks...but would my stock ranger carrier fit into that rear axle? since they're both 8.8's?

No ur ranger axle is a 28 spline carrier. The F150 has the 31 spline.

Thanks, i think im going to swap the whole d44 ttb into my truck. Instead of just the outers.

yes, the track will be a little wider than the D35 set-up...

you can't get adapters for the front...they wouldn't fit over the hubs....so run adapters for the rear....Greg ( 97TrailrigDD ) has them and wheels his rig hard....so I know they aren't a weak link...

the advantages to running just D44 outers are the larger brakes and more robust hubs....

disadvantages to running D44 TTb is that there are more brackets to fab up as well as steering....reason very few have attempted it and made it work....

just swap in the knuckles, more advantages there than the headaches to swap in complete beams....

as for your rear carrier....already been answered, 28 spline to F-150 31 spline...

i've done the d44 outers on the 35,as well as the 44 swap(and pretty much any other combination you may think of).
the outers add a bit of width, but the rear adapters will add about the same amount.the adapters,as has been said in an earlier post will not be a strength issue.an f 150 rear will add too much width.

i highly recommend this for tire sizes up to 33'',35'' will be ok but won't take as much of a beating.
i beat the crap out of mine with 33s,never a problem.
while the bigger brakes and hub locks are an advantage, the biggest plus of this swap is the bearing spacing,as the 35 has the wheel bearings pretty much right up against each other...the 44 has some space between them so there is much more resistance to side load damage.
i used outers from a '96 f150 on mine.

Thank you, very much! Are the 96 outers, the ones that require no reaming? Or is that just for the bronco spindles?

Looks like im gonna hopefully start tearing apart my d44 tomoro! Pretty stoked, thanks again. Will probably have more questions upon the install, So keep an eye out, your help would be awesome!

on mine i was doing a cut-and-turn anyway,so i ended up just welding the lower part of the 44 arm onto the 35 arm for the lower ball joint hole.

i'll have to take another look at it to see what else i did, that was a few years(and projects)ago....but i still have it.

I've seen adapters for 5x5 to 5x4.5, is it not possible to have the center hole enlarged to fit over the hub? The reason I ask is cause I plan on doing the 44 outers and buying new wheels isn't a viable option for me. I have trail worthy fab wheels and I don't have the funds to buy new inners (they run ~$100 each IIRC).
