Now you say some of the early 4.0s . . you mean in 4X4 right??
I have found, recently, a couple yards that "supposedly" have some D28 3.08s. But until I see them in my hand, I'm still looking for any leads available.

Well someone helped me out on another site and found a link to a salvage yard that had 3.08 D28 gears. So they are being sent to me and I can hope for the best 
Yes, his 4.0 4x4 came from the factory with 3.08 gears.
