hey guys
Im sure this question has been answered before but I can't seem to find what Im looking for so i'll ask anyways.
I've got an 83 ranger with a 6" BDS lift and the D28, anyways i came across a D35 for a good price and am going to put it in. I have read that there are clearance issues when using drop plates, which is what i have. is there any where you can buy just a different drop bracket? not a whole lift because the rest of the lift is fine.
if not and i make sure my bump stops are all in the proper places, how much travel am i loosing?
and has anyone modified the plates to work better?
thanks

Yeah you can buy drop brackets by themselves from a couple different companies. I know you can buy Tuff Country and Skyjacker brackets separately. I have found that suspensionconnection.com sells Tuff Country brackets for a good price, and you can buy Skyjacker brackets from several companies (trsfabandoffroad.com, for example).

Hope this helps.

Using a Dana 35 and a dropped plate "bracket" is a bad idea, as you've already mentioned. I'd rather buy new brackets than having to buy a new pumpkin/axle.

im buying a BDS from a member on here and it will be ran with a d35 and im just going to add bumpstops, and a front locker will be added so flex in the front end wont be necessary for the front end to get traction

Has anyone measured what the travel loss is at the wheels using the plates compared to a bracket.
It'd be nice to know before I spend another couple hundred to replace something that isn't broken, yet haha

I haven't measured it exactly, but it appears you'd lose at least a good 3" or so of uptravel with a bumpstop big enough to keep the diff from hitting the bracket.

As for modifying the plate, "Todd" on here did that with his, though it seems he must've deleted his pics :icon_confused:
Essentially what he did was cut the offending part of the bracket off (including one bolt), then welded the OE bracket to what was left of the plate (I think he added a gusset to prevent the whole thing from flexing fore/aft as well).

that's what i'm planning to do to mine before i install my d35 and lift brackets. i wanna put some gussets on them anyways. plus you cant buy just one lift bracket, you gotta buy both.
