I have the whole front end of my truck torn down replacing bushings and balljoints and such. While I was tearing the left side apart I got the caliper off and then pulled the retaining ring thing off, its held of with five 5/8th inch nuts, I pulled that off and then my whole left side axle assembly pulled out! Im guessing that wasnt supposed to happen?

Anyway that didnt bother me since my front gearset was destroyed by the previous owner. So anyway I put the left side back together with new bearings and seals.

I went to the right side to do the same thing but the right axle wont pull out. My question is what do I have to do to get the right side axle assembly out? I want to leave the diff in the arm but pull the shafts out

if u are talking about the axle shaft coming right out of the diff, your going to have to take that diff out. the axle is held in there with a C clip. its a pain, but u have to do it to get it out.

If by left side you mean Drivers side, then, don't worry about it. No c-clip on that side, just shove her back in there. :icon_thumby:

Why no clip on the drivers side? It just pulled out and I was like wtf? So to get the passenger side axle out I need to pull the diff and pull the axle? I think Im gonna pull the diff and then pull the whole carrier so the diff will be empty

b/c on the right side u two shafts and two u joints. i think ford did that so when your flexing the front your axles shafts wont come out.

There is not one on the drivers side, as, with the hub assembly together, there is not enough room for it to slide out anyway.

Yes, thats correct, it's because it can flex and the shaft can come out of the housing. You can use a spring as a c-clip eliminator to make it easier to pull the shafts if you need to. Many member have done it, including me.

since your gear set is toast anyways time for a D35 swap..... you can do the spring c-clip eliminator mod at the same time.......

Im running a 2wd trans so no need for anymore ttb stuff. When I get my divorced transfer case setup im going for dana 60 and sterling 10.25

just curious, why you going with a divorced set up?

I got the trans for cheap and it has shift kit and is setup right. I plan on going much higher with the truck and getting serious with it. I didnt feel like messing with a 4wd trans for now so Im gonna set it up for a divorced 205 later

Can you pull the third member without dropping the right axle beam? I got the 10 bolts out of the front and the one behind the radius arm out but can get the pig out of the small space. Is it one of the hold your tongue right kinda deals?

If you are going to remove your carrier, you will have nothing to support your axles, you might want to remove your axles as well...

Thats what this whole thing has been about. I started doing this to pull the axles but since the gears are toast im pulling the carrier also but then Im gonna put the diff back in. So how do I get the diff out? I pulled all the bolts but cant seem to wiggle it out
