custom sainles steel clutch line

well im guna have to replace my plastic clutch line. some one broke it when thay removed the trany(i bought the 88 stx for 600 and it allredy had the trany out) i hate to pay 60 bucks for new one so... i cleand all the old plastic of the fitings and my dads a relly good tig wellder so he is guna weld up a new tube out of stainles,then i will have to bend it to fit. ill post picks if it turns out good. NOW when i hook up my new line will i hve to bleed my slave? and can i bleed it all when the tranys still out?
 
If you had to rig a line other than the original plastic one, I'd use a flexible brake line hose. The stainless is likely going to just crack after much not time at all, as whenever you are on/off the throttle, the engine will rock and move a bit. The plastic is flexible enough that it can handle that, but not being moved too much, like yanking the tranny out.

You will have to bleed it. Anytime something like that is opened up and air gets inside, it will need to be bled. It'll probably be easiest once it's all back together.

The clutch system is like a brake system, I think it's even supposed to take DOT3 brake fluid, mine did at least.
 
ill be replacing my line w/ a braided stainless steel brake line, just need to look at the fitting carefully and find a long enuff line to do the conversion. never have to worry about that line dryrotting plus the clutch will completely depress since stainless lines dont flex like rubber hoses do. thats why ppl upgrade from rubber brake hoses to braided stainless steel, plus its completely flexible.
 
well my dad tiged up my new stainles line today and then i bent it to shape

well ill se how it works tomaro ill have to put my trany back in ...but i figerd out the blake fitting at the cylender spins and then it poped apart? and so i cleand it and poped it back to gether:headbang: so now i can retern thet60+ dollar china:annoyed: hose back to advance!
 
well thats not what i meant by stainless line, thats solid steel, itll flex bend and possibly break. the hose i was talking about was braided stainless steel flex brake line...heres a picture of what im talking about...

I definitely see that breaking due to stress sometime in the future. There is a reason why rubber hoses are used for brake lines and the same reason applies to your transmission. Your transmission and engine flex a little bit under load and it happens quite often hence the reason for the cheap plastic "flexible" line going to your slave cylinder. If you have a plastic slave you also could be putting more stress on that than you are supposed to.
 
ok i did not know where to get that kind of line but if this dont work out in the long run then i will try that.but as far a s flex my line id about 3" extra line it has a good spring action mor flex than it looks like.i intend on securing it to the fire wall beter at the master. but as far as the ranger goes i see a lot of stuff to inprove that ford did not.:sad: so i will be bissy bring this ranger up to speed with allot of moding:icon_welder:
