Custom Fab rack plan

Here is the rack I'm going to have a guy I know make for me for my truck. It's not pretty,but it will hold up well and do what I need it to do.

Meh, if the welds look good, nothing a couple cans of rustolium won't fix.

I think it's a good, functioning design. Are you going to use expanded metal in the open areas? I don't know if this is for off road or hauling applications, but if it's for hauling stuff, the expanded metal will help in guarding your windows.

It'll be to support off road lights and my antenna, but yes, later I will add expanded metal. I wanted simple and functional. I didn't want pretty.Going to prime it then paint it flat black .

Me and this guy are soon going to start mapping out a custom bumper for the front of the truck.The rack itself will be using 2'' x 2'' and 1/8 inch thick steel. We considered using 1/4 inch thick , but figured 1/8 will do the job just as well.

i'd go 3/16". it will be much better for any additional things you'd want to add to the rack. stronger for sure and easier to weld to i would think, imho.

we are still considering using 1/4 steel too.

In my opinion, 1/8 box will be plenty for that rack! Hell, most roll cages (that ive seen) are built out of .120" wall tubing (1/8" would be .125" wall). granted that is tubing not box, and there is more triangulation involved, but still.

Yeah, anything over 1/8" is just adding weight.

Weight is my biggest issue with it!
