So the NICS turned me down on a 30-06 even though I passed a back ground check(no criminal background),has anyone got any experience as a gunsmith?I was thinkin it would be cool to build a single shot rifle, thats accurate.Like a break barrel maybe,I dont want to get too complicated. And what kinda special tools are required?

They exist

You mean a Ruger #1 or a Contender/et al.

Pretty sure you have to have a license to make a firearm...

How can they turn you down if you pass the background check?

You can get blackpowder kits, the major work is done you just have to fit and finish all the parts. As long as you are over 18 years old nobody should care. They can be very accurate.

Nope. If you want to manufacture and sell you need a license, but if you want to build a firearm for yourself there is no license or paperwork required(federal). Alabama is a pretty gun friendly state, but check your local laws to be sure.

Something as minor as a parking ticket can flag you with an NICS check, or it could simply be that it was after hours at the NICS department. If your background is clear, wait a couple of days and try again.

As far as gunsmithing goes and building your own gun, how in depth do you want to go?

This guy built a Stevens Marksmen out of some steel plate he had laying around.

i like the AK,its cool.I want to keep it simple,i would be satisfied with a single shot rifle,i would really like a bolt action, but found that it is a little more advanced than what i am capable of
