1993 Ranger XLT 2wd, std. cab 3.0 V6 automatic A4LD. Factory cruise control.
Completely unloaded (except for me weighing in at 175 lbs onboard) and not towing anything, my Ranger will lose speed on a bridge of good size. Cannot maintain 65 or 70 mph (its even worse at lower speeds). Once in a while the cruise will kick off after it has tried unsuccessfully to maintain uphill speed after about 20 seconds or so but not always. It doesn't over-speed going downhill. It never calls for a downshift of the transmission. I can put my foot on the gas pedal anticipating the loss of speed and you can tell the torque converter unlocks and pressing further it downshifts into third. The cruise never does this. My speed will drop from 70 down to 60.
Is there a mod or two I can perform to the linkage or cruise servo to fix this?
