My credo
"220, 221, whatever it takes."
Was just at Fordvehicles.com, building assorted imaginary cars and trucks, did not see the Crown Vic listed.
Did they quit making it, or maybe is it just a fleet vehicle for cops and taxi drivers now?
What will the old folks do who insist on a car with a real frame and full-sized spare tire?

I know they brought the Marauder back for a little bit, and that was pretty much a re-badged Crown Vic. I dunno if they killed the Vic when that went too. I have noticed the Cops have quite a different variety of new vehicles now, none of them being new Vics... Around here anyway. Maybe they are too recognizable though.

One of the local police departments are running a couple of blacked out Dodge chagers. they blend real nice just sitting on the side of the road at night.

What I understand, the Crown Vic had very low sales aside form fleet vehicles, and it wasn't worth they're time to produce this vehicle to the public. I do believe its still available as a fleet vehicle, but needs to be ordered. I do know Ford has a prototype that is very close to production called the "Interceptor". Its susposed to replace the Vic and compete with the 300 from Chrysler. Its a mean looking car with the 300 type look to it. I think the Vic was discontinued in 2005 for public use and was only offered as a fleet vehicle, and still is. Thats to the best of my knowledge.

"The 5,424 Crown Victorias sold in January 2007 far exceeded the 3,526 of the newer Ford Five Hundred which is a more technically advanced full size car with similar passenger space and better fuel economy."

It's a shame. Such a wonderful American car. Big, heavy, rear wheel drive, but still pretty quick thanks to a great V8 engine.

every cop I have talked to about the new chargers say the run great and not much will beat them, But the brakes suck balls the rotors warp after one one hard run they have upgrade the wheels to fit bigger rotors and calipers, and the still warp. the cops state they feel a little unsafe comparied to the vicki where the brakes cool down are and act great.

There's a company (not the one drive for) that hauls out of the Talbotville, ON plant. Rumor's from talking to some of those driver's is that they killed production of the civilian model due to low demand. Only producing fleet (police and taxi) models now, which is still like, 90% of production.

Yup, it's fleet only starting in the 2008 MY. The Mercury Grand Marquis is still available to the general public.

The Marauder was brought back for the 2003 and 2004 model years and came with the 4.6 DOHC engine vs. the 4.6 SOHC in the Crown Vics and Grand Marquis.

FWIW, I'm 28 and drive a 2003 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor that I bought from auction. I bought it as a family car since I hate SUV's and minivans for daily driving. It's cheap, dead reliable, easy to work on, and has a huge trunk to haul stuff around.

I have noticed the same thing. Here in my home town they recently purchased a fleet of white extended cab F150's, all of them white, all of them lariat, all of them tinted, several of them 4x4. :headbang: All of them unmarked, all of them with dash mounted police lights which makes a very good truck suck.

Yeah, what Parkinglot said, they're only fleet now. From what I understand you can still get the Town Car's too. I've seen a lot of higher-up law enforcement officer's driving those lately. The Chargers... I think a lot of law enforcement jurisdictions are transforming to those because they are the only rear-wheel drive sedan left pretty much (that's not special order). There's a town near me that has a lot of those. They piss me off cause they use the small lights on the top and they're hard to spot from a distance. Oh well, I need to slow down anyway.

The Crown Vics have been having a little bit of problems though with the gas tank. It's not too strong and if they get hit hard enough they catch on fire. Every other month there's a report on the news about it. It's kind of the departments fault cause Ford said take them in to a dealer and they'll fix them. Well the city's just lazy I think.

Dayum, that there be one of the fugliest things i done ever seen.

What a shame Ford's gonna follow in the same footsteps of GM and Chrysler in the ugly automobile market.

For some intercepters they replace the spare tire with a shotgun rack, and then they are surprised when it doesn't do so hot when it gets rear ended. When it was set up as designed from Ford they are fine, but they are counting on that spare tire being in place at the bottom of the trunk in a wreck. I think they did come up with a plate to help improve the outcome with the car in intercepter trim.

I bet they had it done, it would be a major lawsuit if they didn't and somebody got hurt.

I'm sure from the facotry it was a good design till the 3rd party conversion team messed with it. There was 2 officers that died this year because of it. One family is trying to sue Ford.

They should use trans am's for the intercepter. Reliable, fast, stealthy at night. The vic is an awesome car and its huge. Inside and out. Nothing would be cooler then a fleet of trans am's tho with big push bars on the front and a really tricked out paint job.
